Tahoe Nugget #91:
New Donner Book & Series July 26, 2006
Tahoe Nuggets have slowed down because I am in the process of writing a new Donner Party weather book. I am under a tight deadline so that the book can be published in late September/early October 2006, in
time for the 160th anniversary of this event. The blurb on the back cover reads:
"Weathering the Storm
is a fresh look at this classic western tale about the struggle for survival as powerful snow storms during the winter of 1847 trap 81 California-bound pioneers in the High Sierra. Their desperate yet inspiring battle for survival has become an educational primer about taking shortcuts and dawdling on the trail."
This Saturday, July 29, I will be attending a Donner family reunion at Donner Lake. There are more than 150 descendants expected to attend. Please, no "what's on the menu" jokes.
The on-line Tahoe Truckee News Network has been publishing an exclusive weekly series tracing the experiences of the Donner Party as it worked its way into American history. The series is written for TTNN by Mark McLaughlin. Copies of all the installments can be found in the TTNN archive: Donner Party.
