Tahoe Nugget #7:
Sugar Pine Park
Rode the bike to Sugar Pine State Park on Thursday. Entrance is free to cyclists and pedestrians. The park is home to an old Tahoe mansion
and is a lake front estate so the views are killer. The elevation of Freel Peak (in background) is 10,881 feet and it is the highest point in the Lake Tahoe region. Popular with hikers, skiers, mountain bikers, and
snowshoers, the mountain was named in an 1876 survey for squatter James Freel, a miner and rancher from Illinois who had settled at the base. Canoeing and kayaking are popular water sports, but due to changeable
weather conditions and the danger of speeding motorboats it's best to paddle along the beaches and cliffs.
